Freeway rescue

While driving to AAAR's annual Detroit Zoo Walk, I saw a kitten walking on the side of a very busy road. Of course, my first instinct was to go to her and I did, but the minute she saw my car coming by her, she decided to jump on the concrete barrier that lead to an even worse position - I-696!! I immediately stopped my car but she had already jumped on the concrete barrier. Luckily she decided that freeway wasn't such a great choice either and decided that she shouldn't move at all.

Freeway

I called my husband to bring a net and Pam, who is great at handling cats. While everyone was running to the scene, I pulled up next to the kitty to at least make sure she wouldn't jump onto the freeway. Freeway on barrierOnce everyone arrived to help, we got into position and made sure traffic was clear on the freeway and on 11 mile. Once I yelled "Clear", Pam tried to grab her but the kitty decided to make another run but I was able to net her. Pam quickly got her into the waiting carrier. We rushed her off to emergency since it appeared she may have been hit by a car.

Good news - Freeway (as we call her now) - turned out to be fine! She just had some missing fur around her face and sores on her paws. We aren't sure what happened to her but we do know there are no broken bones.

Freeway is probably about 10 months old, a girl and very cute! She is very sweet and hoping for a new home soon! She loves to have her belly pet. We are waiting a bit before taking her picture again - she is still recovering and would prefer not to have any pictures taken right now ;)
