Macomb County Rescue Pull Info

501(c)(3) rescues may pull out of Macomb County without charge except for vaccines. Pets are held for 4 or 7 days, depending on if they are stray with evidence of ownership or not.

Rescues may put a hold on any animals they are interested in. On their release date from the stray hold, the animal will be vaccinated early in the morning. Rescues will need to pick up that day.

Requirements

1. Rescues must be 501(c)(3) and provide proof

2. Rescues must provide contact list

3. Provide copy of adoption contract

4. Schedule an orientation with the Animal Director

To view the animals, you must call the shelter to arrange a time Monday through Friday during shelter hours. The rescue must be registered with the shelter (see above list). If you are interested in receiving updates on what animals are available, please email us.

Please note, things are changing quickly so please call the shelter before you go to verify.

Once an animal is tagged (put on hold), the animal must stay in the shelter until their hold date is up. If the shelter wants to put the pet up for adoption, they can, then the rescue must wait 7 days or adopt the animal at regular adoption prices (with the spay/neuter fee waived). Once the 7 days is up, the animal may be transferred to the rescue at no charge.

Are you Breed Specific Rescue?

Macomb County Animal Shelter is extending a welcome to Breed Specific Rescues to register with the shelter. Please send them the documents listed above and also if your rescue has any specific requirements, such as coloring, accept mixes, etc.
