We did a survey of veterinarian practices in the Southeastern Michigan area to find practices that did spay/neuter at an early age. The survey was conducted in November 2009 and asked the question "what is the earliest you will spay a kitten?" That age may vary for male dogs/female dogs and even male cats. Please call ahead to verify the age before making an appointment. Also, the health of the animal and other factors may play into how soon the Veterinarian will spay/neuter so it may vary more so in practice.
Also, not noted here, is that some vets will perform the surgery earlier for rescue groups. Please talk to your vet that you already use for your rescue and they may be willing to work with you. Many vets understand that spay/neuter prior to adoption is critical so please talk to them about it.
